This 2-day course covers the content of ICISF’s Assisting Individuals in Crisis. Only those attending all hours of class will be issued certificates. Designed to present the core elements of a comprehensive, systematic, and multi-component crisis intervention curriculum, this course will prepare participants to understand a wide range of crisis intervention services for individuals.Fundamentals of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) will be outlined and participants will leave with the knowledge and tools to provide several crisis interventions for individuals.

Program Highlights: Psychological crisis and psychological crisis intervention; Resistance, resiliency, recovery continuum; Critical Incident Stress Management; Basic crisis communication techniques; Common psychological and behavioral crisis reactions; SAFER-Revised model; Suicide intervention; Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD).

Instructor: Chaplain Dean Aithwaite is the Founder and CEO of Willamette Valley First Responder Chaplains (WVFRC) with 10 years serving as a First Responder Chaplain. Chaplain Dean has over 25 years in Public Safety, with military and fire service. He is an Approved Instructor with the International Critical Incident and Stress Foundation (ICISF) and serves on multiple peer support teams throughout the Valley, including Oregon State Police’s Health, Wellness & Resiliency Team. Chaplain Dean also teaches on topics such as “Trauma Events: Self Care & Caring For Others”, “Death Notifications”, and “Suicide Prevention/Intervention”.
